CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Location: Neilson Alana Beachclub, Croatia
Season: April – November
Qualifications Required: Indoor Climbing Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor (or recognised equivalent)
Eligibility: UK & EU passport holders
Salary: £775 PCM gross, plus shared accommodation, meals, flights, and an excellent overall package.

As a UK-based business operating overseas, we’re able to arrange the required visas and work permits for UK and EU passport holders to work legally in our resorts.

About You

You’re enthusiastic about climbing and get a real buzz from helping other people discover what they’re capable of.

You’ll combine strong technical knowledge and safety awareness with the patience, encouragement and personality needed to work with guests of different ages, abilities and confidence levels.

Some guests may arrive ready to get straight onto the wall. Others might need a little more encouragement before their feet leave the ground. You’ll enjoy working with both.

You’re approachable, professional and organised, with the maturity and judgement needed when taking responsibility for other people’s safety.

You’ll know when to encourage someone to push themselves a little further – and when to recognise that simply getting a few feet off the ground might be a massive achievement for that particular guest.

Just as importantly, you’ll enjoy being part of a team, meeting new people and getting involved in the wider life of the resort.

Role Overview

As a Climbing Instructor, you’ll deliver safe, engaging and confidence-building climbing sessions for adults and children as part of the Neilson activity programme at Alana Beachclub.

You’ll work with everyone from complete beginners to more experienced climbers, adapting your sessions to suit different ages, abilities and goals while maintaining excellent safety standards throughout.

This is about much more than getting people up a climbing wall.

You’ll help guests overcome nerves, learn new skills, challenge themselves and experience that brilliant moment when they achieve something they weren’t sure they could do.

Alongside your climbing responsibilities, you’ll be part of the wider resort team, helping with guest events, activities, airport transfers and resort life throughout the season.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Deliver safe, engaging and informative climbing sessions in line with the Neilson programme.
• Plan sessions appropriate to guests’ age, ability, experience and confidence levels.
• Demonstrate climbing techniques and the correct use of equipment.
• Help guests develop their climbing skills while building confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
• Fully brief guests on climbing safety and the correct use of equipment.
• Maintain the highest standards of health and safety and manage risk effectively throughout every session.
• Take responsibility for the maintenance, security, inspection and presentation of climbing equipment.
• Keep climbing facilities and activity areas clean, organised, safe and welcoming.
• Monitor equipment and stock levels and report maintenance or replacement requirements promptly.
• Actively promote the climbing programme and encourage guests to get involved.
• Support and help develop new or peak-season team members where appropriate.
• Help organise and host guest briefings, social events and wider resort activities.
• Support resort set-up and close-down at the beginning and end of the season.
• Assist with airport transfers, arrivals and departures, giving guests a warm Neilson welcome.
• Support other resort departments when required and be ready to get stuck in wherever needed.

Skills & Experience

You’ll be great at this if you…

• Hold, or are working towards, an accepted climbing instructor qualification.
• Have strong knowledge of climbing equipment, safety procedures and risk management.
• Can confidently deliver safe, engaging sessions to adults and children.
• Enjoy helping people overcome nerves, build confidence and learn new skills.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Are patient, encouraging and able to put nervous guests at ease.
• Are organised, proactive and comfortable taking responsibility.
• Can adapt your coaching style to different ages, abilities and experience levels.
• Have good judgement and take safety seriously.
• Have a strong work ethic and are happy getting stuck in.
• Work well independently and as part of a close-knit team.
• Remain calm and professional in a busy, active environment.
• Are willing to listen, learn and continue developing your own skills.
• Have a good standard of spoken English.
• Have a genuine passion for climbing and creating exceptional guest experiences.

It’d be a bonus if you also have…

• Experience delivering climbing instruction to both adults and children.
• Experience working within outdoor education, adventure sports or activity centres.
• Additional outdoor activity or coaching qualifications.
• Previous overseas or seasonal work experience.
• Experience within hospitality, leisure or resort environments.
• Additional European language skills.

Qualifications

To join us as a Climbing Instructor, you’ll need to hold an accepted climbing instructor qualification, such as:

• Indoor Climbing Instructor, or
• Rock Climbing Instructor, or
• A recognised equivalent qualification.

We also welcome applications from candidates holding relevant recognised UK and international climbing qualifications and equivalent certifications.

You do not need to have completed your required qualification before submitting your application.

First Aid Requirements

A valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate is mandatory for the Climbing Instructor role.

At a minimum, this must be a one-day, in-person Emergency First Aid at Work course.

Your certificate must be in place by your start date and remain valid for the duration of your contract.

If you haven’t yet completed your EFAW qualification but are booked onto or planning to complete the required course before your start date, you can still apply – just provide the details and expected completion date within your application.
